Monks Eleigh Parish Council

Your councillors are:   James Hodges, Angela Forrest, Alan Braithwaite, Rupert Perry,  Sarah Bennett and Stephen Penney

This explains the scope of duties of the councillors in the hope that more will come forward and volunteer.

The council maintains important links with both our District Councillor, Bryn Hurren and County Councillor Robert Lindsay. We have an income through the council tax

precept of just over £22,000. Your money is used to;

  • Manage, maintain and improve the assets and land of the village such grass cutting, play area, tree cutting and footpaths
  • Support our local voluntary organisations such as the village hall, shop, church and other local charities
  • Pay the clerk and all appropriate insurances and fees.

Additionally, the council has a formal role as a consultee on planning matters and can comment / recommend. We are not the decision-making authority. We are

considering joining in the production of a local plan to guide future planning decisions on development in our village.

We need your help and support in this work. Becoming a councillor is not hugely onerous and is an important contribution to village life.

Council Objectives

  • To encourage owners of those less tidy areas of the village to smarten up and improve those areas.
  • To do all that we can to ensure that any proposed new buildings are in line with the Babergh Local Plan and that any building that takes place only enhances the village.
  • To improve road safety, especially at the difficult junctions at each end of the village.
  • To pledge ourselves to conserve the lovely environment in which we are privileged to live - both aesthetically and ecologically.
  • To continue to promote a caring spirit amongst our community and to promote the sustainability of our village.
  • To represent the interests of the whole community.
