Suffolk Barn Owls

Help us bring the barn owls back to your part of suffolk

Barn Owls

The Suffolk Wildlife Trust wants you to know about an exciting opportunity to increase barn owl numbers in your part of Suffolk. We are delighted to have funding from SITA Trust to install 100 barn owl nest boxes at community sites in mid and west Suffolk.

A community site could be a churchyard, village green, park, school, community orchard, allottments, anything really - as long as your community site or the land around it offers good feeding habitat for barn owl, then it could be an ideal place for a barn owl nest box. Our Community Advisers will visit to assess your site and work out where is best to place a barn owl box. Thanks to the funding, the box and installation will be completely free.

Our goal is to help barn owls spread their wings accross the county and nest boxes really do work! Thanks to the 1000 barn owl nest boxes we have already installed, 2012 was an amazing year for barn owl, with the highest number of barn owls recorded in Suffolk for generations. With more boxes we can build on this success.

How we hope you can help:

  • Put forward your own community sites which you think might be good candidates for a barn owl nest box
  • Spread the word to community groups in your local area
  • Include this exciting community initiative in your parish news - website, parish magazine, e mail distributions and parish notice board

Time is of the essence! All the boxes need to be in place by October 2013 - so if your parish is interested in helping barn owls set up home in your neighbourhood, please contact us now.
